Matthijs Spek was born in 1974 near Rotterdam in The Netherlands. He started playing classical piano at the age of eleven and picked up the guitar at the age of sixteen. In 1997 he went to the conservatory of Utrecht to study modern guitar and graduated in 2001.

Matthijs Spek says that his music is not the purpose but the result, the physical shape of a non-visible spiritual form.
